Question 72

The pond bird count

Our class began the bird count at the bench by the gate and walked slowly around the pond. Tall reeds along the far bank hid some of the ducks from view. The ducks kept swimming between the open water and the island, so it was hard to tell which ones we had already counted. We wrote each section's total on a separate card, but one card slipped off the clipboard into the water and could no longer be read. Later, a dog ran along the bank and scattered the birds. When they settled again, we were unsure where to restart.
