The watch which applauds
Original opinion extract, written for practice.
My watch is a wonderfully encouraging companion, provided I do the things it can count. Walk in circles while waiting for the kettle and it congratulates me. Sit with a friend through a difficult conversation and it announces that I have been idle. I know which afternoon mattered more, yet the small bright ring remains annoyingly persuasive. I have caught myself explaining to a wrist that the walk was longer than its battery allowed it to record. The device has not deceived me; I have promoted one useful measurement into a rather fussy judge. I still want the reminder to move. I would prefer to remember that a number can describe part of a day without being qualified to deliver its verdict.
Use your own words to evaluate the writer’s attitude to activity measurements on a watch. Give details from the extract to justify your answer.
