Question 32

One star for the clouds

Original opinion extract, written for practice.

The room was clean, the staff were courteous and the breakfast arrived exactly as described. I have mentioned all that in my review, so nobody can accuse me of being unfair. Nevertheless, I gave the guesthouse one star. For three days the sea was grey and the rain interrupted every plan I had made. The owner says the weather was outside her control. Of course it was; I am not suggesting she personally moved the clouds. But her website showed a golden beach, and I bought the feeling in that picture as much as the bed. If businesses encourage dreams, they should not be astonished when customers assess the dream. A holiday is more than a list of services, and disappointment does not become less real because the towels were excellent.

Use your own words to evaluate the writer’s attitude to judging a holiday business. Give details from the extract to justify your answer.
