Question 22

During a safety inspection at a nuclear facility, a digital dosimeter is used to measure the intensity of gamma radiation emitted by a localized shielding leak. The relationship between the detected radiation intensity and the distance from the leak is modeled by the formula:

I=kx2 I = \frac{k}{x^2} I=x2k

where x x\,x is the distance from the leak in metres (m), I I\,I is the radiation intensity in microsieverts per hour (μSv/h\mu\text{Sv/h}μSv/h), and k k\,k is a constant.

When the dosimeter is placed 0.80 m from the leak, the recorded radiation intensity is 225 μSv/h225\ \mu\text{Sv/h}225 μSv/h.

Calculate the radiation intensity registered by the dosimeter when it is moved to a distance of 1.5 m from the leak.
