Question 52

The first-aid session

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

At the community first-aid session, the trainer had us work through the actions one at a time on a padded practice figure before introducing a timed scenario. I found that slow start useful, and the numbered checklists beside each station helped too, because they kept the sequence in view. Once the scenario began, I hurried the first step and had to start again. The trainer reminded us to pause and check our place before continuing, and I managed the next attempt more carefully.

The writer identifies two arrangements that helped them prepare for the timed scenario. Give both.
