Many people in Zambia rely on maize as a staple food crop. In response to changing climatic conditions and demographic shifts, farmers have increasingly adopted drought-tolerant (DT) hybrid maize varieties.
Figs. 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 show information about the population of Zambia, available arable land for cultivation, and maize yields.
Use the information in Figs. 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 to explain the food security challenges facing Zambia and how the adoption of drought-tolerant hybrid maize helps to address these challenges.
