A researcher successfully cloned a genetically engineered, bioluminescent strain of tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum) using tissue culture. The parent plant contains a firefly luciferase gene and glows when the substrate luciferin is supplied. However, one of the regenerated cloned plantlets failed to glow when tested under identical conditions.
