A ball is thrown into the air. The motion of the ball is modelled so that at the instant the ball is thrown it is 5 m off the ground and moving vertically upwards with a speed of 12 ms-1. The ball is modelled as a particle moving freely under gravity. The acceleration due to gravity is modelled as being 10 m s-2.

a.

Sketch a velocity-time graph for the motion of the ball for 0≤t≤T0 \leq t \leq T0≤t≤T.

[2]
b.

Using this model, find the time taken for the ball to reach its maximum height.

[2]
c.

Find the value of TTT.

[3]
d.

How would this new value of T T\,T compare with the value found, using the initial model, in part (c)?

[1]
e.

Suggest one further refinement to the model, apart from air resistance, to make the model more realistic.
