Question 175

Shades of Focus

Natural light has long been known to affect circadian rhythms and alertness. Modern workplaces often use engineered artificial lighting of varying color temperatures to influence productivity. To investigate this further, psychologists plan to use a laboratory experiment to test whether blue-enriched white light (6500 K) leads to fewer errors in a standardized data-entry task compared to standard warm white light (3000 K). Participants will complete a 20-minute computer-based transcription task in a windowless laboratory room where the lighting color temperature is strictly controlled.

Evaluate the use of the laboratory experimental method in this study.
