Every notification, like, or autoplaying video acts as a highly alluring cue, promising an immediate psychological reward. Neuroimaging reveals that when we succumb to these digital triggers, the reward networks deep within our brain light up instantly. However, not everyone transitions from a quick check to hours of lost time. Some individuals possess robust self-regulatory mechanisms that allow them to easily suppress the impulse to scroll and refocus on their long-term objectives, whereas others remain highly vulnerable to these constant tempting cues."
