Julian is a head chef at a high-end, busy restaurant who has recently been making severe operational mistakes. During peak dinner service, he struggles to keep track of multiple incoming verbal orders while simultaneously monitoring the visual presentation of plates, often forgetting key elements of dishes. He is easily distracted by the kitchen's background noise, leading him to mishear directions from his sous-chef and react aggressively, accusing them of trying to sabotage his station.

On one occasion, after a chaotic shift, he was found in the ingredients storeroom, unable to recall what items he went in to retrieve or where he had placed the keys to the cold room. When questioned by the restaurant manager, Julian could not remember the chronological sequence of events that led to a dish being sent back. The manager has recommended Julian see an occupational therapist for an assessment of his executive functions and cognitive load management.
