Crop Disease Resistance Trial

A botanist is evaluating the effectiveness of a new bio-fungicide spray against a common leaf rust disease in apple saplings.

  • Condition 1: 40 saplings are sprayed with Bio-Fungicide Formula A and exposed to the rust pathogen.
  • Condition 2: Another 40 saplings are sprayed with a standard chemical Fungicide Formula B and exposed to the rust pathogen.

All 80 saplings were sourced from the same commercial nursery.

Explain the benefit of using a random number generator to allocate the 80 individual saplings to either Formula A or Formula B in this trial.
