Many teachers claim that holding lessons outdoors improves student engagement. A researcher was not aware of any previous research investigating the effects of outdoor lessons on secondary school students' engagement levels. She decided to investigate this claim.
Thirty-five students from a local school volunteered to take part in her study. They each answered the following question:
‘Do you feel that you engage with your lessons ‘more’, ‘less’ or ‘the same’ when they are held outdoors?’
She obtained the results in Table 1.
