Administrators of a city library service wished to find out if teenage library users were satisfied with a newly installed 'Digital Tech Zone' (featuring VR headsets, 3D printing, and coding software). They commissioned a sociologist to conduct a pilot study to investigate the attitudes of users aged 13–19.
The sociologist decided to focus on the teenagers' satisfaction with the available equipment and the helpfulness of the support staff. The sociologist also believed it was essential to find out what new digital workshops or services the teenagers would like to see introduced in the future.
To collect this details, the sociologist developed a questionnaire. To encourage honest feedback and protect privacy, participants were not required to write their names. All teenagers visiting the Digital Tech Zone over a weekend were asked to fill out the questionnaire.
