One method used to memorize items in a specific sequence is the Method of Loci, where items are mentally associated with specific physical locations along a familiar route (such as rooms in one's house).
A researcher conducted an experiment to test this technique.
In Condition A, 15 participants were instructed to memorize a list of 10 key historical events in chronological order using standard rote repetition.
In Condition B, 15 different participants were instructed to use the Method of Loci to memorize the same 10 historical events in chronological order.
The results are displayed in Table 1 below.
