In an observational study, 50 classroom group discussions were video-recorded to study cooperative learning behaviors in primary school children. Two educational researchers used content analysis to analyze the video footage. They found that 65% of the cooperative tasks involved active peer-scaffolding. The most common supportive behaviors were clarifying instructions and encouraging peers. Other behaviors included dividing tasks, sharing materials, and resolving conflicts.
