A sports scientist investigated the effect of music tempo on athletic performance during high-intensity training using an independent groups design.
In Condition A, 12 participants performed a 500-metre rowing ergometer sprint while listening to ambient, slow-tempo music (80 BPM).
In Condition B, a different group of 12 participants performed the same 500-metre sprint while listening to fast-tempo electronic music (140 BPM).
The average power outputs (in Watts) achieved by the participants in Condition B are shown below in Table 1.
