A researcher conducted a two-part experiment to investigate the effects of performance feedback on motivation. In Part 1, participants completed a word-association task and were given preset fake feedback (either highly positive or highly negative, regardless of their actual performance). In Part 2, they were timed on how long they spent trying to solve an extremely difficult spatial puzzle.
