An educational charity has developed a new interactive tablet application called 'EmpathyQuest' designed to improve emotional vocabulary in young children.
There is a proposal to carry out an experiment to compare the effects of using the new application and reading traditional picture books on emotional vocabulary in Year 1 children (aged 5–6).
A sample of 300 Year 1 children and their classroom teachers is available for the experiment. Parents and headteachers have given consent for the children to participate.
The experiment will take place over a 6-week period. Data on the children's emotional vocabulary will be gathered from the classroom teachers using a self-report method.
Design the experiment to investigate whether using the new interactive tablet application ('EmpathyQuest') leads to a greater increase in emotional vocabulary in young children, compared with reading traditional picture books.
