A researcher investigated emotional recognition in adolescents. A matched-pairs design was used, involving 12 adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and 12 neurotypical adolescents. Each participant was shown 20 close-up photographs of eyes and asked to identify the represented emotion from a list of options. The researcher recorded the total number of correct identifications for each participant. It was found that adolescents with ASC had a significantly lower average score than the neurotypical group.
