An industrial psychologist noticed that technicians at a manufacturing plant have differing views on the effectiveness of digital training suites. Some technicians claim that immersive virtual-reality (VR) simulations prepare them much better for precision assembly tasks than standard 2D training videos.

Design an experiment to test the following hypothesis:

‘Individuals who use a virtual-reality-based training simulation to learn a complex assembly task will make fewer errors during a live assembly than individuals who train using a standard 2D instructional video.’

In your answer, you should refer to the following and justify your design decisions:

  • the variables to be considered
  • the experimental design to be used
  • the sample
  • relevant materials
  • an outline of the proposed procedure.
