Use your knowledge of cognitive explanations for gender development to explain the comments made by Clara and Thomas in the dialogue below.

Clara and Thomas Dialogue

Clara and Thomas are discussing their five-year-old daughter, Maya.

Clara: "Do you remember when Maya was younger? She used to believe that her brother Leo would literally become a girl if he wore a pink skirt and played with dolls."

Thomas: "Yes! And now she's five, she only wants to play with things she considers 'girl toys' and actively ignores any action figures. She watches the older girls at school so closely, copying their games and learning exactly how girls are 'supposed' to behave."
