Response A from a 3-year-old child: "When I grow up, I am going to be a mummy and have a baby in my tummy."
Response B from a 6-year-old child: "If my brother wears a pink nurse's outfit and a long wig, he is still a boy, not a girl."
Kohlberg proposed that children go through three cognitive stages of gender development.
