Question 9

An event and its different audiences

Original practice source: a commentary about successful events.

Enjoyment can show that an event offered something people welcomed. Organisers reasonably want their preparation to become a worthwhile occasion for those attending. A response from the audience should be taken seriously rather than dismissed because the plan looked good.

Not every valuable experience is simply pleasant, and different visitors may respond differently to the same arrangement. One disappointed person deserves a hearing without automatically defining the whole event. A useful assessment asks what was promised, who could take part and what the event actually made possible.

A national newspaper is running an essay competition on the statement: “An event is successful only if everyone enjoys it.”

Write an essay for the competition arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
