Question 2

The story before the recipe

Original practice source: a commentary about recipes and personal writing.

A recipe can carry more than instructions. A short account may explain why someone cooks the dish, how a choice changed or which occasion gives it meaning. The reader may value encountering the person as well as the method.

Another reader may arrive with a practical question and limited time. If the instructions are difficult to find, the personal account can feel like a compulsory entrance rather than an offered pleasure. A useful presentation can make different routes clear without requiring every recipe to become either a bare list or a full memoir.

A food-and-culture magazine is inviting articles on the statement: “Personal stories do not belong before a recipe.”

Write an article for the magazine arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
