Celebrating what did not look difficult

Original practice source: a commentary about achievement.

A difficult task attracts admiration partly because its resistance is visible. We see the repeated attempt and understand that success required something. An apparently easy action may conceal long preparation, helpful conditions or a person’s particular experience.

Difficulty is not the only reason a result matters. A small reliable action can allow other people’s work to continue, while an impressive challenge may contribute little beyond its own completion. Celebration can recognise effort, benefit or growth, but it becomes confusing when those different judgements are treated as the same one.

A national newspaper is running an essay competition on the statement: “Only difficult achievements deserve celebration.”

Write an essay for the competition arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
