Waiting costumes
The assistant lifted a velvet coat from its padded hanger. The fabric was faded at the shoulders and frayed around the cuffs, but the lining was smooth. A label inside named an actor I recognised from old films. Before the coat could be lent to another production, each weak seam had to be recorded. I had imagined costumes waiting in boxes between performances. Here, even a coat that nobody was wearing seemed to require a careful schedule.
From the passage, select two words or phrases that describe damage or wear to the coat's outer fabric.
