Question 76

At first, I turned the map until the path on the page matched the path ahead, but I still could not decide which track to take. The instructor tapped the contour lines beside the stream and asked me which way the ground should rise. At the next junction, she kept her hands in her pockets and said nothing while I compared the map with the slope. I chose the left-hand track; only after I had identified the footbridge ahead did she nod.

From the passage, select two words or phrases that show how the instructor's support changes as the beginner becomes more independent.
