Question 4

The lift beneath the stage

The scenery platform moved slowly, carrying an empty bench from the storage level towards the stage. Its motion was smooth, with none of the jolting I had expected from such a large structure. The technician stopped it before the top reached the floor and checked that the work area was clear. From an audience seat, I would have seen only the finished room. Beneath it, the room's arrival was a separate operation requiring time and attention.

From the passage, select two words or phrases that describe the movement of the scenery platform.
