The jar on the campaign poster
Original opinion extract, written for practice.
A jar is such a pleasant object to put on a poster. It gleams, it suggests a careful kitchen, and it never asks how it reached the photograph. Our campaign must resist becoming an exhibition of attractive containers owned by attractive people. I want the system to work for someone carrying shopping on two buses, for the person who forgets a lid, for the shop assistant who must explain the return scheme during a queue. Those details look untidy beside a slogan. They are the work. I remain excited by the idea of using things again rather than constantly replacing them. That is precisely why I want questions about collection, cleaning and access answered before we congratulate ourselves on having selected the right shade of green.
