Course aims & skills

CIE IGCSE Chemistry builds the skills examiners reward. By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • balance chemical equations and calculate reacting masses
  • apply the mole concept to reacting quantities and gas volumes
  • explain trends in the periodic table using atomic structure
  • describe and explain ionic, covalent and metallic bonding
  • plan and evaluate practical investigations safely
  • interpret graphs, tables and experimental data
  • apply knowledge to unfamiliar contexts and novel problems
  • identify unknown substances using qualitative chemical tests
  • explain rates of reaction and energy changes using particle theory
