A student constructs an electrical circuit consisting of two identical filament lamps, Lamp A and Lamp B, connected in series to an ideal d.c. power supply of constant potential difference, as shown in Figure 1.

The student then connects a third identical lamp, Lamp C, in parallel across Lamp B, as shown in Figure 2. The potential difference maintained by the power supply remains constant.

State and explain how the brightness of Lamp A in Figure 2 compares to its brightness in Figure 1.
