Radioactive isotopes can be used to investigate the function of internal organs, such as the kidneys.

The kidneys filter waste products from the blood, which are then excreted in the urine. A person can become ill if one or both of their kidneys are damaged, blocked, or functioning poorly.

Explain how a radioactive isotope with suitable properties may be used as a medical tracer to investigate kidney function.
