A planetary probe explores the liquid hydrocarbon seas of Saturn's moon Titan, investigating how hydrostatic pressure varies with depth. Under a surface atmospheric pressure of 147 kPa, the probe first measures pressure at different depths in a reservoir of liquid methane (density 422 kg/m3).

The probe then repeats the investigation in a reservoir of liquid ethane (density 544 kg/m3), which is more dense than liquid methane.

Figure 1 shows the original graph of pressure plotted against depth for the liquid methane.
