Figure 1 shows a horizontal shelf, XY, supported by two vertical cables at its ends.

The shelf is in equilibrium.

The shelf is 1.20 m long.

A box of weight 180 N rests on the shelf.

The weight of the box acts at a distance of 0.40 m from X, as shown in Figure 1.

Ignore the weight of the shelf.

A horizontal shelf XY of length 1.20 m is supported near its ends by two vertical cables. At the left end X, there is an upward force T1. At the right end Y, there is an upward force T2. A box of weight 180 N is on the shelf, acting downwards at a distance of 0.40 m from X.

The upward forces exerted by the cables on the shelf are T1 T_1\,T1​ and T2T_2T2​.

Calculate the force T2 T_2\,T2​ by taking moments about X.
