A student sets up an experiment to study the moments of forces using a uniform metre ruler of weight WWW.

Figure 1 shows the apparatus used.

The ruler is supported by a pivot at its exact center.

A brass mass is suspended from the left side of the ruler.

A glass marble is placed in a light holder on the right side of the ruler.

The system is in equilibrium.
