An engineer sets up a calibration rig to measure the attractive force exerted by an electrostatic actuator.

A light, horizontal non-conducting rod is balanced on a central pivot. A thin metal disk is attached to the left end of the rod, at a distance of 24.0 cm from the pivot, directly above the fixed electrostatic actuator.

When activated, the electrostatic actuator exerts a downward attractive force, FeF_eFe​, on the metal disk.

To balance this force and restore the rod to horizontal equilibrium, the engineer suspends a calibration weight of 0.18 N on the right side of the rod, at a distance of 16.0 cm from the pivot.
