Two identical bar magnets are placed on a horizontal track, as shown in the configurations below.

In Configuration (i), the magnets are held a fixed distance d d\,d apart with their North (N\text{N}N) poles facing each other. In Configuration (ii), the right-hand magnet is reversed so that its South (S\text{S}S) pole faces the North (N\text{N}N) pole of the left-hand magnet at the same distance ddd.
