Figure 1 shows the magnetic field pattern around a bar magnet.

Figure 1: Diagram showing a bar magnet with the North pole (N) on the left and the South pole (S) on the right. Magnetic field lines emerge from the North pole and curve around to loop into the South pole. The field lines are most densely packed at the immediate faces of the North and South poles.
