A cylinder of helium is used to fill party balloons.
The cylinder has a volume of 0.050 m3. The helium in the full cylinder is at a pressure of 1.5 × 107 Pa.
Each balloon is filled with 0.0060 m3 of helium at a pressure of 1.0 × 105 Pa.
The temperature of the helium stays the same.
Calculate the volume the helium from the full cylinder would have at a pressure of 1.0 × 105 Pa.
Use the equation
P1×V1=P2×V2P_1 \times V_1 = P_2 \times V_2P1×V1=P2×V2
Helium stops flowing out of the cylinder when the pressure inside the cylinder falls to 1.0 × 105 Pa.
Explain why not all of the helium in the cylinder can be used to fill balloons.
Calculate the maximum number of balloons that can be filled from the cylinder.
Use your answers to (a) and (b).
