A student makes the following hypothesis:

"When the temperature of a fixed volume of gas is increased, the absolute pressure of the gas increases linearly."

They set up the apparatus shown in the diagram below. A glass flask of fixed volume containing a sample of dry air is sealed with a rubber bung and connected to a pressure gauge. The flask is fully submerged in a water bath, and its temperature is monitored using a thermometer.
