Figure 3 shows the apparatus a student uses to investigate how the distance a wooden block slides along a flat runway depends on the surface material of the runway. Diagram showing a wooden block placed at a marked starting line at the top of an inclined ramp. The ramp leads onto a flat, horizontal runway where different surface sheets can be laid down. A metre rule is positioned along the side of the horizontal runway to measure the distance the block travels before stopping.

Describe how the student should carry out an experiment to find out how the sliding distance depends on the surface material of the runway .
