The vehicle is traveling at a constant speed when an emergency stop command is transmitted at time t=0 st = 0\text{ s}t=0 s. There is a short transmission and mechanical processing delay (system latency) before the brakes fully engage.

Figure 1 shows the velocity-time graph for the vehicle during this emergency stop sequence.
