How waves transfer energy
All waves transfer energy from one place to another without transferring matter overall. In a mechanical wave, particles in the material medium oscillate about fixed positions while the wave energy moves through the medium. Electromagnetic waves do not require a material medium and can travel through a vacuum.
Step-by-step lessons on AQA GCSE Physics 6.1.1 Transverse and longitudinal waves. Each one builds up to exam-style questions. Build a strong grip on equations, units and Key Stage 3 fundamentals before tackling the more demanding topics like electromagnetism, the particle model of matter and space physics.
