A prism has the same 2D shape all the way through, so the repeated face is called the cross-section. The distance it extends is the length or depth of the prism.

To find the volume, first work out the area of the cross-section, then multiply by the prism length. Use $V=A\times L$, and write the answer in cubic units such as ${cm}^3$ or $m^3$.
