Question 73

The temperature diary

An original contemporary non-fiction-style account.

Our class measured the playground temperature at lunchtime for a month. On Friday the reading was unusually high. We were ready to call it a record until Leila noticed that the thermometer had been left beside the kitchen’s warm air outlet. It was also resting in direct sunshine, whereas our earlier readings had been taken in shade. We kept the number in the diary, but labelled it unsuitable for comparing with the other days.

Explain two reasons why Friday’s temperature reading was unsuitable for comparison with earlier readings.
