Text: an original contemporary school-newsletter-style practice extract.
I thought the repair café would be useful only if someone fixed my loose chair. I carried it into the school hall expecting to wait while an adult tightened the screws.
Instead, a pupil showed me how to check which screw had loosened. We found the right tool on the table and fixed the chair together. Nearby, another visitor was learning to mend a torn bag. The volunteers were busy, but they stopped to explain what they were doing.
By the end of the afternoon, I had a steady chair and a better idea of how to deal with small repairs. I still think the café is useful for fixing things. I had not expected it to help people feel more confident about trying repairs themselves.
