Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.
Each autumn, a wildlife rescue centre takes in young hedgehogs that are too small to survive the winter in the wild. Each one sleeps in a plastic box lined with shredded newspaper, and a heat pad placed beneath the box keeps the bedding warm through the night. Volunteers weigh the hedgehogs every morning and write each weight on a chart. Once an animal reaches a healthy weight, it is moved to an outdoor pen so that it can grow used to colder air before it is released.
From the extract, identify two ways the centre keeps the young hedgehogs warm.
