Question 31

After rain reached the rehearsal room

Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.

Overnight rain entered the community hall through a window that had not closed properly. By morning, the cardboard scenery had buckled and several paper lanterns had collapsed. Volunteers carried the costumes and electrical equipment into a dry room before checking the rest of the building.

The stage manager photographed the damage before the clean-up began. The photographs were later added to the hall’s maintenance record, together with a reminder to inspect every window after rehearsals.

Identify two effects of the rain on items in the rehearsal room described in the opening paragraph.
