Question 26

The repair café entrance

Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.

At the monthly repair café, visitors used to register at a table in the narrow entrance passage. When several people arrived together, the queue prevented wheelchair users from passing comfortably, so the organisers transferred registration to the main hall. Visitors now receive numbered cards before taking their broken items to a volunteer. The same team continues to staff the table, and signs outside direct new arrivals towards it. Organisers check the entrance throughout each session to ensure that it remains clear.

From the extract, identify one reason for relocating the check-in table.
